there are many drivers.
it's not nearly as simple as city vs country.

money: hey, let's repeal the inheritance tax.
war: America must remain the biggest bully in the world.
church:
-- stem cell research,
-- abortion,
-- teaching evolution,
-- contraception.
family values:
-- allow teaching religion in school,
-- prevent teaching religion in school.
business rights vs consumer protection.

it just seems to me that people who attend major universities tend to be more liberal.
people who sponsor the NRA tend to be more conservative.
who would you like to be identified with?

I have to agree with mamasquirrel, libertarian is the best for me. However I do want to comment on your observation of rural vs. city. As I agree things do tend to move faster in the city, don't for a second think that farmers and rural people don't know whats going on in the world. As they might not care that Anna Nicole died or some rich white girl went missing, they get the news that matters and they base their judgements as all of us do on their surroundings, education, and abilities.

Because they choose to vote republican in many cases is quite simple. The republicans do not want to take their money and farms away from them. The highest percentage of people who are hurt by the estate tax are farmers because they own land worth a couple million dollars and equipment and other things worth almost as much. They do not want their kids to have to sell the equipment or land in order to pay a death tax on property and equipment they already payed tax on.

Also farmers tend to work 60-80 hours a week and they might have a hard time understanding why some of your city-folk are getting paid by the government to do nothing. Do not think that because they live on a farm they are any less-informed than you. These people are intelligent and know what they doing for if they didn't you probably would not be eating.

And rich does not mean you vote democrat. Many rich people do vote democratically because they want the government to give away money instead of them maybe having to pony up a few bucks to charity. The biggest difference between this ridiculous red vs. blue is that the reds will give THEIR money to charity, while the blues think the government is the charity and should do all the humanitarian work.

But in all, I am a libertarian as I am socially liberal and don't really care what goes on behind your closed doors, but I do not want government interfering and paying for everyone to do what they want. Thanks and have a nice day.

"Which party do you identify with and why? "

The libertarian party.

Okay, I live in one of those wealthier counties that tends to vote democrat. But I have to say that while I am socially liberal (in other words, if it doesn't hurt me or anyone else, I don't give a rat's behind what you do), I've seen time and time again how things only get more expensive and out of control when the government steps in. Ergo, I favor a smaller government that is fiscally responsible and stays the heck out of things they don't need to be involved with. Now, most people would say that makes me a conservative and republican, but....well, heck, look at the mess both here and abroad the republicans have gotten us into these past years! They're no better than the democrats.

As such, I'm a libertarian.

Comment on Q&A: What would you do if the world turned into a real-life Zombieland? by Alex

My choice of weapon would be the metal hook I use to fish the ladders down from the attic, that thing is solid and could easily take someone's head off or rip out some vital body part. It could be used as a club, blade or indeed a digging tool.
Other than that I would take a rucksack containing salt, a bottle or two of TCP, some bandages and medical tape, a flint striker, my fishing/hunting knife, some twine, a metal saucepan, my dynamo torch and a sleeping bag.

I'd probably be inclined to do as you would and steal a boat to get off the island. I'd be stuck on a small island with around 60 million people.
I'm not sure where I'd go, I'd probably make my way to one of these places...

Santa Maria Island (5,000 population but very isolated otherwise)
Porto Santo Island (4300 population again very isolated)
Christmas Island (1,402 population)
Agalega Islands (200 population)
Cocos Island (Population <10)

I have no problem with gathering food, cooking, farming or building shelter. My biggest problem would be learning how to cope with the different climate and wildlife.
I probably wouldn't take a dog, a barking dog could help warn you but it could also alert others of your presence or turn on you in hunger, fear, pain, illness etc.
I would just make sure to either sleep somewhere difficult to reach/access or somewhere well hidden.
...of course I might also kill myself out of desperation knowing I was one of the few if only people left.
